ENERGY / PRE-WORKOUT DRINKS - SAVE 50-60% BY DOING IT YOURSELF.
I am often asked to suggest a good energy/workout drink.
I think both Dyamatize Xpand and Twin Labs MVP Fuel are good. I tend to like the Watermelon flavors that remind me a little of the old Jolly Ranchers candy taste.
However, these name-brand powders can get a bit expensive for those on a fitness budget.
Another suggestion ?
Make your own....
L-Glutamine powder 5 grams (approx 1 round teaspoon)
Creatine Monoydrate powder 5 grams (approx 1 round teaspoon)
Caffeine Tablet (100 or 200 mg) as desired.
L-Arginine Capsule (3 X 500mg)
Flavored Water Enhancer (add to taste)
Notice the use of Arginine capsules instead of powder -- The reason is Arginine powder produces a horrible taste when mixed in liquid.
So the best way to mix and use this workout drink is to blend together the Glutamine + Creatine + Flavoring + Water in your gym bottle and take the caffeine tablet and arginine capsule 30 minutes before starting your training. Then drink the flavored mix during your work-out.
The advantages here are .....
(1) A price savings of 50-60% over name brand mixes.
(2) You can change flavorings as often as you like
(3) You really control the formulation
One "trick" played by the big companies is you sometimes do not get much active substance as all. For example they may list their ingredients as being an 8,000 ug (8.0 mg) Proprietary Blend of all the ingredients listed above plus more.
Well if they only have 8 mg in a serving then that means as little as 2-3 mg of each individual active ingredient.
Compare that to the above where the "do it yourself" mix has the full recommended 5.0 mg of active ingredients on the major compounds.
So for those wanting to be sure they get the supplementation they desire and/or wishing to save 50-60%, this is an idea to try.
