Perhaps the question I have had emailed to me since the new book was announced is this ....
"HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT FAST?"
My best and most honest answer to that is if you are referring to healthy weight loss, then 2 pounds per week is about the fastest you can realistically expect.
Too many people use a scale to monitor fat loss. Time for a reality check - A scale is almost USELESS when it comes to monitoring body composition.
When people go on crash diets and starve themselves, they tend to lose water, lose muscle tissue and also lose some fat. But is that REALLY what you want ?
NO.
You want to maintain lean muscle mass as that defines your body shape and regulates your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). You want water in your system to remain hydrated and prevent exhaustion, concentrated urine wastes or salt buildup in the form of kidney stones, etc..
All you really want to get rid of is ugly, cold, jiggly and useless FAT.
Furthermore muscle is more dense than fat, so it is not uncommon for a person to lose considerable body fat, get more toned and muscular, look leaner and tighter ---- YET, end up actually weighing more as far as a "dumb scale" is concerned.
I call the scale "dumb" because it can't tell the difference between a pound of water, a pound of fat, or a pound of muscle.
So when you are first starting to lose weight, sure a scale may give you some idea of your early progress ---- but before long, you need to forget the scale and use the MIRROR as your true measure of progress.
