TRYING TO QUIT SOFT DRINKS ? Many people have quit drinking sweetened soda because the sugar and calorie content wreaks havoc on blood sugar and adds to weight gain. Thus people switch to diet soda. However diet sodas have recently been shown to NOT be as wise an alternative that we first thought. Although containing no calories, some studies are now showing that artificial sweeteners trick the body's metabolism and sugar/insulin response factors. This confusion creates it own problems with weight gain .... not to mention the ongoing debate as to the health hazards of some of the commonly used artificial sweeteners preferred and used by the big soft drink manufacturers.
So what is a person to do?
Well first, let us be honest. Coke, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi and the others really don't taste good do they? Think about it. Do you REALLY love the taste -OR- Is it the "bite" and sizzle and fizz of soda that keeps you coming back?
If you are trying to get off sugar sodas AND diet sodas, try this idea for one week. Get some flavored Seltzer water. These days they come in a wide variety of flavors and feature NO artificial sweeteners. Carbonated water and natural flavoring is all they contain.
Like the switch to natural peanut butter, it may seem strange at first.... but many people find that after a week or two of trying to make the change, they actually begin to prefer the flavored seltzer water.
Give it a try.
